Dawn Zampell is a graduate of Long Island University, LIU Post Campus, with her Bachelors of Music in Music Education, majoring in piano performance, with minors in percussion and vocal studies. She then went on to complete her Masters of Music in Music Education at Five Towns College. She currently is the proud department chair and choir director at Alexander Hamilton High School and assists in their fall dramas and spring musical productions. In addition, Dawn is also the Music Director and organist for the United Methodist Church of Shrub Oaks in Shrub Oaks, New York. She loves music and travel, and often tries to find opportunities to do both.
Dawn Zampell has traveled with This World Music, where she studied West African Drumming in Accra, Ghana with The Ghanaian National Dance Ensemble. She traveled to Negril, Jamaica with the Jamaica Field Service Project, volunteering as a music therapist and participating in Caribbean drumming. She also studied at the University of Limerick in Ireland focusing on Bodhran drumming and Celtic singing. She has toured Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic on percussion, as well as the Sydney Opera House in Australia. She also has performed at prestigious locations throughout the United States, such as Carnegie Hall and other venues. She is also a current choir member of The Cecilia Chorus, based out of Manhattan.
Outside teaching in a public school classroom, she is a private piano, violin, percussion and vocal instructor who performs regularly in each area. She will also perform the pipe organ for various church services as well as in concert performances. In addition to her love of music, she has a passion for education, and spent a season volunteering as a curriculum coordinator at a school in Bangalore, India with LRTT, Inc.
She is looking forward to seeing what new opportunities may arise in the future.
